Furqan Mohammed
Furqan Mohammed represents people throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs who have been seriously hurt in traffic, on someone else’s property, or through a medical provider’s mistake. His practice covers vehicle collisions, slip-and-fall and premises claims, dog bites, medical malpractice, and wrongful death.
A Focus on Commercial Transportation
A large share of his caseload involves vehicles someone was paid to drive: taxis, rideshare cars, food-delivery and other gig drivers, and commercial carriers. These claims rarely turn on a single insurance policy. Coverage can shift depending on whether an app was switched on, whether a passenger was aboard, and which company controlled the vehicle at the moment of impact. Each of those answers changes what the claim is worth. Over the past decade, Furqan and his team have recovered millions of dollars for clients with catastrophic injuries.
Reading the Other Side’s Playbook
Furqan holds credentials most injury lawyers never pursue. He is a trained mediator, has passed the Chicago Public Chauffeur License Examination, and has passed the Illinois State Property and Casualty Insurance Examinations, the same licensing exams taken by the drivers and insurance professionals sitting across the table. Policy language and municipal regulations are not obstacles he works around. They are material he knows firsthand.
Background in Corporate Litigation
He began his career as a commercial litigator in the Chicago office of Perkins Coie LLP, defending multinational corporations in contract and commercial disputes. Those years spent on the side that insurers and corporate defendants occupy shape how he builds and negotiates injury claims today. He continues to serve as outside counsel to businesses in the food, medical, and other sectors.
A Recognized Voice on Chicago’s Taxi Industry
Furqan is among the most frequently cited authorities on the Chicago taxi trade. He has given interviews to The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, WTTW, ABC7, WGN, Crain’s Chicago Business, NewsNation, and NPR; testified before the Chicago City Council on taxi regulation; and served as a testifying expert for the Indianapolis Taxi Reform Commission. Loyola profiled him in its law school Alumni Spotlight for representing medallion owners after the market collapsed.
Teaching and Service
Teaching has stayed part of the practice. Furqan has taught Introduction to Law as an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago, and regularly runs Intro to Law sessions for high school and college students, including at College Preparatory School of America. He speaks to law students and young attorneys on practice and diversity, and to community audiences on estate planning and real estate. His pro bono work with low-income South Asian families and with survivors of domestic violence has been honored by Chicago Volunteer Legal Services and the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic. When his calendar allows, he coaches middle school basketball at Northridge Preparatory School, his old high school.
