On October 18, 2025, Furqan Mohammed returned to campus for Loyola University Chicago’s annual Alumni Weekend, gathering with members of the Alumni Muslim Affinity Network (AMAN). Furqan is a double Loyola graduate: he earned his undergraduate degree at Loyola and his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Though our group was small, the impact was anything but.

The group heard reflections and campus updates from Loyola’s chaplain, Omer M. Mozaffar. From there, the conversation turned to action: brainstorming new ways to support current undergraduate students and to re-engage Muslim alumni. Basit Hussain, a former MSA president and the current president of AMAN, flew in from Atlanta for the weekend. The day ran from breakfast overlooking basketball practice, to lunch with fellow Muslim alumni, to a Loyola men’s soccer game, and finally a concert and dinner.

Why Staying Involved With Your Alma Mater Matters

Seeing alumni who share their background build careers in law, medicine, and business can help students from diverse communities picture those paths for themselves. Alumni can also help through mentorship, internships, and encouragement.

Furqan has stayed connected to Loyola for years. He taught as an adjunct professor of legal studies, has sponsored an Iftar at Loyola, and joined the Muslim alumni get-together at Alumni Weekend in 2024 as an AMAN board member.

This gathering wasn’t just a reunion. It was a recommitment to mentorship, visibility, and community-building.
